Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of football scholarship for his family and service in the local community. First family he is the youngest of the nine children of Lucious the Jessie and Lucious Selmon. The family lived on a family farm near Eufala, Oklahoma. A second reason was his father was the only of three brothers to play for Oklahoma. All three became All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy received the Outland & Lombardi Awards for being the top lineman from the USA. He won two championships and 32-1-1 in his three seasons as Oklahoma's starter. Third scholarship he was named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon graduated with a degree from the University of California in Berkeley. Fourth year of the college Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. He moved to Tampa after college, played with the Buccaneers for nine years and was three-times all-pro. His business career began. He was an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There was no doubt that In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy one of ten outstanding young people throughout the United States. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 lbs in the time he played football at college. The year 1975 was the first time he led the team. He joined University of South Florida in 1993 as an associate director of sports. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Jr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma was the person who presented the award.
